General Tips
You need passport to go between the South and the North parts of the country via the border crossing, but can go back and forth anytime you want.
Turkish Side is outside of the European Union zone – your WIFI won’t work here and will need another package from your mobile provider, or buy a local sim card.
We recommend downloading an offline Cyprus map that works on your GPS, in case you run out of WIFI, save the locations below on your offline map, too.
Cyprus doesn’t have great toilets, so be prepared! They don’t flash toilet paper down the toilet anywhere in the country. There are bins provided next to the toilets.
Mostly Apple pay is accepted, but it’s sometimes good to have coins (Euros and Turkish Liras) for parking and small purchases.
We recommend water, water and water. Also hats and sunscreen at all times. 😎
Evenings can get cool and windy, so a thin sweater is recommended.
For insect (mosquitos especially) we recommend getting Anthisan cream. Also mosquito repellent sprays.
English is widely understood.
Most museums close early so check opening hours.
Parking in the North side appears to be “very flexible” (also driving, so be careful). If you ever get a ticket, it means you have done something very bad, ha! When you hire a car in the South side, let them know you will be driving in the North side, in case the insurance is not covered.
In the North Cyprus, the operators put petrol in your car, you just tell them how much and what type. Don’t need to come out of the car. Put petrol in the North Cyprus as cheaper.
If you are renting a car from the South part of Cyprus, you will need to purchase separate insurance for driving in North Cyprus; it costs around EUR30 for a month and is payable, in cash, at the border crossing between the North and South division.
